How to use a skill

Three ways to put a skill to work.

A skill is portable expertise, not an app. It goes wherever you already work. Pick whichever of these fits how you use AI today.

01

Paste it into any AI tool universal

The simplest way, and it works everywhere. Open a skill, use “Copy all contents,” paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini, and then add your actual task underneath.

  1. Open the skill and click Copy all contents — that grabs the SKILL.md plus its references in one block.
  2. Paste it at the start of a new conversation in your AI tool.
  3. Below it, write your real request — and tell it your jurisdiction (“I’m in [county], New Jersey”). Grounded skills need to know whose law to apply.
  4. Read the draft critically. It’s a draft for your review — check the citations and the flagged questions before you act.
02

Drop it into a tool’s own wrapper

If you want a skill always-on for your team, install it inside the tool you use — as a Claude skill, a Custom GPT, or a Copilot agent — so nobody has to paste it each time.

  1. Claude: download the package and add it as a skill (the folder layout — SKILL.md + references/ — is already in the shape Claude expects).
  2. Custom GPT (ChatGPT): paste SKILL.md into the instructions and upload the reference files as knowledge.
  3. Copilot agent: use SKILL.md as the agent instructions and attach the references.
  4. Set your jurisdiction once in the wrapper’s configuration so every run is grounded.
03

Download the package and read it

Every skill is a plain folder of Markdown — versioned and dated. Download it to review the judgment, audit the sourced law, or hand it to a colleague.

  1. Click Download folder (.zip) on any skill page.
  2. Inside: SKILL.md (the judgment), references/ (the sourced law), checks/ where a skill self-verifies, and examples/.
  3. The references carry their source URLs and the date the law was checked — so you can verify everything yourself.
